30 Aug 2009
Teachers Day Celebration at The PSBB Millennium School

The role of a Guru is a very important one in the lives of disciples. A Guru, is not only a proverbial friend, philosopher and guide, but also the parent, worthy of worship. Even the Hindu scriptures accord the Guru an exalted status, considering them the equivalent of God. This is encapsulated in the Sanskrit sloka,

//Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnur Gurur Devo Maheswaraha
Gurus Sakshat Parabrahma Tasmai Srigurave Namaha//

It was an evening that highlighted this very theme, from none other than our own Guru and chief mentor, Mrs.YGP

Here is an attempt to encapsulate the learning provided by Mrs. YGP:

Indian culture provides rich ethos and values. We as teachers embody them and live as an example to our students. Globalization brings about a positive change through technological advances, but at the same time one should remember to retain the strong roots that are foundational to our behaviour.

Values based leadership, is about walking the talk and being the change that we would like to see in our students. We as teachers have been empowered by millions of parents to just be that kind of source of enlightenment and inspiration.

Learning transcends boundaries of classroom teaching, and also includes avenues for active learning through methods such as analogies, creative references. Pedagogy, being an art and science, requires teachers to create an environment that supports bi-directional interactions and catch the students doing right things.

It was an inspiration that each of the teachers derived from our beacon of light, by the continuous interaction and motivation that Mrs. YGP offers each time every time. We look forward to more of such interactions and wish her very best in forthcoming visit to the US.

Mrs Sheela Rajendra, Vice Principal and Correspondent PSBB Group of Schools also greeted the teachers on the occasion and said that Mrs. YGP was a legend in herself and all that she had achieved and how that was so much we had to learn from her.

A week from Teacher’s Day, we couldn’t be reminded better of the critical role we play and receive crux of an extremely successful teacher’s experience.

The evening ended with light refreshments and a small gift being given to each teacher wishing them great times ahead.

As reported by Mrs.   Amita Singh – English Department
