Varalakshmi Vritham or the Pooja to honour Goddess Lakshmi was celebrated in the form of a mini programme put up by the Students of Std IV and V as part of their General Assembly at the Porur Branch, on Tuesday, 28th July.
The started with a devotional song highlighting the Ashta Lakshmi – like Mahalakshmi, Veeralakshmi, Gajalakshmi etc. This was a lively performance by the children.
Next followed by a speech given by a student of class V who explained about the significance of Varalakshmi pooja, its occurrence in the almanac with specific details about the rising star and when exactly it is marked in the almanac. The student also gave the information about how the pooja had to be done at home with relation to the kalasam decoration, thamboolam, food for neivadhanam or offering to the Goddess.
The duration of the speech was about 7 minutes which enlisted all the traditional and cultural values given to the festival.
It really helped the children to know about the importance of the pooja.
Finally, it ended with a dance by the girls for the song “Bhakya Jeya Lakshmi …..” which was the highlight of the programme and received thunderous applause from the children.
On the whole, it was a short and sweet programme presented by the IV and V Std students.

Paper Folding for Std IV
|
|
The Students of Std IV were introduced to some intricate but relatively easy method paper folding and cutting by Mr Mahendar Rai who had come from the School of Art and Craft Delhi.
Within a matter of 5 minutes he exhibited the making of a dove, a rose and a tricolour pole.
The young students were amazed at the creation that happened in front of their eyes.
We are sure many of them would have gone home and tried to recreate the magic!
